Who we are…
Life Lines Animation was founded on the belief that human artists can make beautiful art. We are against the use of generative AI and believe it harms our artistic goals far more than it helps.
Why Is Generative AI Harmful?
Good question.
Generative AI is a tool of theft. It is used to scrape the artwork of other artists without their permission. The underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.
Generative AI is bad for the environment. Keeping these AI models active creates an enormous amount of emissions that are accelerating global warming at dangerous rates. Cooling the machines that run the algorithms also requires an enormous amount of water. This power and water should be used to improve the lives of humans, not feed machines that harm the planet.
Generative AI stifles creativity. If you don’t go through the pains of learning the techniques for a creative skill like writing or painting, what are you even doing? You’re playing with a toy. You aren’t being creative, you aren’t making decisions or crafting anything unique. Art, writing, and music are meant to feed the soul, not suck it out of people.
What is our Mission?
Life Lines Animation wants to rebuild animation from a grassroots standpoint. The goal is to 100% funded by everyday people and animation enthusiasts who are just as unhappy with the state of the animation industry as the people who create the moving works of art they love. There are so many artists out of work today, I wanted a place where we could come together and maybe make something we could all benefit from. If you’re a writer, we have outlines for shows we’d love you to flesh out. If you’re a designer, there are backgrounds, characters, and props that need to be created. Do you make music? We’d love if you want to try your hand at scoring any of these concepts.
Are Life Line Artists Working for Exposure?
Absolutely not. I do not like asking for people to work for free, and I promise I will not benefit more than anyone else who feels compelled to help with this studio concept. I currently I am doing the heavy lifting on this studio with the help of my awesome brother, and it’s entirely possible that that’s all it will ever be, and that’s okay. Life Line is voluntary and I can’t promise money. But I can promise I will not make any more money than anybody else who would Like to help.
Work from Anywhere!
If The Pandemic taught us anything, and it taught us a lot of things, it’s that animation can be made from anywhere, ESPECIALLY your own home. Life Line has no headquarters and it never will. The benefits of working from home are too numerous to ignore. If you decide you want to join a Life Line production, you can comfortably work from wherever you want. As long as you are contributing to the studio, we don’t care if you do all your work from a creaky attic with a good internet connection.
Who Gets The Money?
We do! The artists that is. Be confident that any monetary contributions made will go to help the human artists of Life Line create wonderful things without having to worrying as much about how to pay bills. 90% of the money will NOT go to a CEO. All proceeds, however much there is, will be split among the artists of life line, however many there are. If there are two of us, and we make two dollars in donations that week, we each get a dollar. If there are five of us, and we make 10 dollars in a week, we each get 2 dollars. Does the show get pitched to a network and picked up for $10,000? Are there still just 5 of us? We each get $2000. It may not be much, but anything is better than nothing.
Something For Everyone.
One of the main ideas behind life line Animation was that I wanted to have something that any artist could be excited to work on. To that end I’m developing projects across multiple genres, artistic styles, and demographics. There are shows for adults, teens, families and kids. Some are 15 minutes long, some are 45. Some are action heavy works, and some are sitcoms. I want everyone to work on something they are excited to see and can share with pride.
No Tax Breaks
What we make WILL be released. We will not shelve any content for tax reasons. Be it through youtube or vimeo, these projects will be seen, because art is meant to be seen. Any work you make with life line is also meant to boost YOU, the artist. To that end we will not prohibit you from sharing what you create with us and you will always be credited for your contributions!
Drop In Drop Out
Do you want to help? That’s great! Do you need to leave because you got a studio job? That’s great! Do you need to come back because your job ended? That’s great! Not great that your job ended but it’s good to have you back!
